The Night is Endless

The night is endless
And my loneliness,
Hard as it is to believe
Is greater still…

The stars witness my tears
Hot against my cheeks
The breeze blows
And I no longer wait for you

I haven't in awhile.
I don't miss you anymore
And how freeing the thought!
How terrifying!

If not you, who do I hang my fantasies upon?
Whose ghost will lace my words?
Who do I ache for, if not you?

And yet the night sky is vast
The stillness is sweet
And my soul has let you go.

This heart of mine
All sorts of battered
A little shattered in the corners
Is finally empty of you…

I no longer need your 'good mornings'
Your 'good nights', or even your 'I love you's'
Take them with you and be on your way

You've been my one true blessing
You've been beloved as have I
But no longer and it's no longer you or anyone.

It's just me
Instead of your embrace,
I'm wrapped in loneliness
And it's comfortably fine.

I don't have tears left for you
Instead I'll cry for me
And it's long over due.

Maybe you didn't know this
But I'm worth crying for.

I love this poem. It joins the many sad but hopeful ones you've posted so far, but this is my favorite.
